Belknap is from Damariscotta in Maine. Her parents are David Belknap and Louise Belknap. She went to Lincoln Academy in Newcastle Maine. When she was at Middlebury College in Vermont she discovered an interest in acting. She then studied at the American Conservatory Theater earning a Master of Fine Arts degree. Belknap is well-known for her TV roles in a variety of series, including regular role (related with ER, Third Watch and Medical Investigation) in The Handler as well as Medical Investigation; a recurring part in Deadline and guest-starring characters for Law & Order Law & Special Victims of the Order and Without a Trace.
